SVT TV BROADCASTS PADEL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY
The day at 15 SVT paddle for the first time in history on national television. Team Bullpadel's Calle Knutsson joins Daniel Windahl on last year's SM winners Pierre Bonfré and Viktor Stjern. On the women's side, Sweden's Baharak Soleymani and Antonette Andersson will face experienced Åsa Eriksson and Billie Gajic.
The "challenger meeting" that SVT has chosen to call its latest sports venture is coming today (Sunday) to Gothenburg and Padel Arena Frihamnen. There, for the first time in history, padel will be broadcast on national television. We took the opportunity to take the tempo on Calle before today's match which will be something completely unique!
Calle, you are today facing really tough opposition when you have to take on last year's SM winners Pierre Bonfré and Viktor Stjern. How does it feel like this a few hours before the match?
It feels good, it will be damn fun and especially when the match is broadcast on SVT. It's a really big thing and has always been a bit of a dream. Since we meet Pierre and Viktor it will be extra fun!
What does it mean for the paddle in Sweden that SVT chooses to broadcast a match on TV?
I think that will be a great thing. You reach an audience that may not have the same connection to the paddle as many of us who are in the "paddle bubble" have. I hope that many people will come and watch and that they think it's fun. Hopefully there will be an increased interest.
How does it feel to finally be able to play a match for real again after the break that has been?
It is fun. Of course you get damn tagged and it finally feels like it's starting to go in the right direction. If we are lucky, we can soon get started with some competitions again.
What do you think about your chances today?
I think it will be a tough match. They have a great advantage of having played together much earlier and that both I and "Danne" are backhand players. But we will go in and try to do our best. Daniel will step over to the forehand side. But I think we have good chances and that it will be a fun match.
The match will be broadcast on SVT1 and SVT Play at 15:00 today!
